Description
From the filth ridden streets of New York City, Satanism brings 7 tracks of satanic speed metal of the absolute highest order.
Old School in sound spirit and energy, combining the lust and sleaze of Venom & Bulldozer, with the demonic buzzsaw riffs of Show No Mercy era Slayer, Satanism are a defiant fist in the face of modern metal, with their feet firmly planted in the golden era of Evil Metal.
Our take: The labels description for this New York bands cassette invokes the golden era of Evil Metal, and that hits the nail on the head. They mention Venom and Slayers Show No Mercy as influences on Satanism, and Id add Celtic Frost that list, too. The songs move between modes of sleazy and savage, the band equally comfortable in both. The recording is very vintage too, with copious reverb and an unpolished yet heavy and powerful sound. The lyricist isnt winning a Pulitzer or anything (one song goes I hate you / I hate you / I hate you / fuck you), but the rawness and the confrontational quality suits the music. I like that its 7 tracks too, feeling more like a long EP or cassette album than just a demo. This will definitely get some horns in the air.
