(Paranoid): S.C.U.M. 12″ Black Vinyl

Description

Limited edition pink vinyl available exclusively through Sorry State!

Here we have it, another chapter in the story of one of Sweden’s greatest practitioners of modern raw hardcore punk – (Paranoid)! The latest of the Northern Wind of Brutal Hell Mangel, this session was released earlier this year on the 7″ format by Sweden’s Not Enough Records but we are excited to give you all the 12″ version of the absolutely obliterating S.C.U.M. EP! Recorded at the now legendary Studio Mangel in Frsn, Sweden with the mix and mastering being handled at LM Studio in Osaka, Japan by Ippei Suda and featuring additional vocals by Jacky and noise design by Statuszero recorded in Japan, this one sided slab packs 6 ear ringing blasts on the A-Side and features an absolutely stunning etched B-Side by Oik Wasfuk. Each record comes in a full color jacket adorned with a ghastly collage along with an obi strip, an insert and a stark poster measuring 18″ x 24″.

Our take: The latest 12 EP from Swedish d-beat veterans (Paranoid) signals a significant shake-up in their sound. In many ways, though, it extends what (Paranoid) has been up to for the past several years, continuing to widen their musics scope, which takes in d-beat, noise, heavy metal, black metal, Japanese hardcore, and plenty more. Its hard to deny, though, that S.C.U.M. includes more raw, straightforward hardcore in the mixture than the past few records. (Paranoid) sounds aggressive as fuck here, playing hard and fast and generating fucked-up tones that, like the best noise-punk, push past grating into the terrifyingly sublime. S.C.U.M. is hardly a back-to-basics record, though, as the sonic hallmarks of their past several records are all over this new EP, which has plenty of rocked-out riffs, soaring melodic lead guitar, and ambitious song structures theyre just served on a plate of sandpaper. Im sure plenty of people will say S.C.U.M. is the best record (Paranoid) has made in years, and if youve lost touch with them over the past few albums, its time to check back in. And if youve been along for the entire ride, youll love how S.C.U.M. synthesizes sounds from across the bands ever-growing discography.
