Description
Nina At The Village Gate finds the inimitable Nina Simone live at the famed New York venue in 1961 with backing from an excellent trio that includes Al Schackman (guitar), Chris White (bass) and Bob Hamilton (drums). The extraordinary 8-song set ranges from jazz numbers (“Just In Time”) to piano ballads (“Bye Bye Blackbird”) to folk songs (“House of the Rising Sun”) and even a protest song (“Brown Baby”) for good measure.
