Lysol: Down the Street 7″

Description

‘Down the Street’ is the latest EP from Seattle punks LYSOL, following 2021’s ‘Soup for My Family’. The four piece lineup of Anthony Gaviria, Xtine Lundberg, Chad Ringo Bucklew, and Noah Earl Fowler waste no time on this EP, with all four tracks clocking in at two minutes or less. Perfectly executed hardcore punk with a touch of Pacific Northwest guitar rock in the mix. LYSOL have yet again kicked down a steamroller of a record that matches their power as a live band.

Our take: New 4-song EP from this long-running hardcore punk band from Seattle. If youve checked out Lysols previous releases, you know broadly what to expect hardcore with a seedy rock and roll edge that leans into the Iggy-isms that informed the Germs and early Black Flag. Its a sound thats strongly associated with the Pacific Northwest, with the Lewd, Poison Idea, and Mudhoney all cooking with a similar recipe. After the straightforward punker Sonic Thrill, Lysol lays down a slinky, vaguely Stones-y riff in Grease Paint. The b-side shows the band pulling at the edges of their sound, with the slide guitar (I think?) and loose guitar work in 15mg drawing from 60s garage, only for Padded Cell to close record with a fast and tightly arranged hardcore tune that could slot right into the middle of Group Sex. If your cup of tea is actually a warm PBR, theres a good chance youre gonna like this.
