30 years on, Korns self-titled debut still sounds revolutionary. The fact remains that no one was quite ready for the bounce-driven, seven-string bombast the quintet served up on their Ross Robinson-produced first album, with its opening Blind redefining the way metalheads grooved for decades to come. Jonathan Davis pit-of-darkness lyricism and vulnerable screams remain just as visceral as they did in 94, while Korns mix of low-rider cruising grooves and dizzying riffs made it clear that a new kind of heaviness brewing up in Bakersfield a nu-metal, if you will. Forever essential, and the blueprint for one of musics most enduring acts.
