Description
California’s Hated left their mark on Punk with three stunning singles all self-released by the band in extremely limited quantities. Over the years these singles have become extremely coveted in collector’s circles, especially those with the ever elusive picture sleeve! Meat House Productions is incredibly proud to present the first ever official reissue of the debut single from Hated, “Innocent People”. A two song scorcher that sees Hated bubbling up from the sandy beaches and huge surf of Huntington Beach with plenty of teen angst and socio-political commentary, both tracks are bonafide California punk classics and have been out of print since their initial release in 1981.
Our take: First ever reissue for this obscure early 80s punk band from Huntington Beach, California. Its amazing theres never even been a compilation of this bands three singles, of which Innocent People is the first, having come out in 1981. The sound is of the Beach Punk ilk you know from records like Posh Boys Beach BLVD compilation. You can expect lots of fast ride cymbal action, surf guitar licks, and disaffected-sounding yet melodic vocals. Its a similar sound to bands like the Chiefs, the Simpletones, and Agent Orange, and its the sound the Adolescents honed to razor sharpness on their debut LP that same year. Yeah, the Hated were no Adolescents, but if you have a taste for 80s California punk, I cant imagine thinking theyre an also-ran. Heres hoping Meat House continues their campaign and reissues the other Hated singles.
