Sonically, imagine New Bomb Turks bombastic and sarcastic garage punk, but replace the rockn roll swagger with biting spite. Not the spite that stems from teenage brattiness, but a more seasoned and embittered approach, like middle management purgatory. Hidden in Butthole Universitys brashness is a pretty funny record — this Brooklyn band pushes its hate firmly against their cheek by praising butt sex and coffee, while raging against white people and cops. The video for Caffeine Queen and t-shirts display an unhealthy obsession with Garfield, as if the sloth feline were some spiritual animal, tolerating Jon Arbuckles mostly lame institutional oppression. Maybe thats looking too far into it, but thats what dumb punk does.
