Brandy: The Gift of Repetition 12″

Description

New York’s Brandy (Ex-Pampers, Running) are back with their sophomore LP and first on TOTAL PUNK. “The Gift of Repetition” is an eight track study in just that. Loud plodding and rhythmic. It will have you bobbing your head till it breaks off your neck. They all share vocal duties often chanting over each other and the lyrics are singular in vision. Bleak with a grin. Synth is added on a few tracks with mind-melting results. When the only other bands that come to mind are A-Frames, Lamps and Mayyors you are obviously doing something right. Pulsing, throbbing, and 100% TOTAL PUNK!!!

Our take: The Gift of Repetition is the second LP from this New York band. I missed that first full-length, but I heard their previous single on Total Punk. I liked that record OK, but I think I get them on LP a little more. What sounded to me like meat and potatoes garage-punk on the single feels more unique here, stretched out and with room to breathe. Maybe the albums title is priming me to think about it this way, but The Gift of Repetition brings me to this hips forward, head-nodding space, like its 1AM and Im in a bar watching a band and I dont know if Im a little drunk, a lot tired, or both. What it might lack in dynamism it makes up for with a uniquely lumbering tenacity. Recommended for fans of Spray Paint, the A-Frames, and Life Stinks.
