Description
Swedens Legendary D-Beat Band AVSKUM return with their first new album since 2008, En Annan Vrld Ar Mjlig” ( Another World Is Possible). Their fifth album has 17 new tracks of rage filled D-beat hardcore supporting Indigenous rights, Self-determination and attacking Fascism, Militarism, Misogyny and political corruption. Avskums sound has its roots in their 1982 origins at the earliest stages of Swedish hardcore punk, with harshly screamed vocals and quick blasting songs, underlined over the ensuing decades by a rock driven heaviness with searing guitar solos, thundering bass lines and rampaging drum attack. Recorded by Kenko at Communichaos Studios, the album features guest vocals from Tompa from At The Gates / Disfear, TB from Asocial / Uncurbed and Mattis from Makabert Fynd. With two stunning cover illustrations by Jordan Barlow to hammer home their vision of empowerment and resistance.. AVSKUM will tour the U.S. Midwest and the West Coast in September 2023 with Resistant Culture.
Our take: The world may be objectively worse than it was 20 years ago, but on the plus side at least Prank Records is still putting out new Avskum albums. I fucking love Avskum. Its a pretty incredible achievement for a band that has been around for as long as they have, but I like each of their albums a little more than the previous one (comparing their albums to their earlier EPs and demos is kind of apples and oranges Im on the side of its all awesome). While En Annan Vrld r Mjlig is still sinking in, I think the trend might continue. This album has everything I love about Avskum. Its fucking relentless in that Swedish kng style that just never lets up, with everything at maximum intensity all the time. The vocals are perfectly shredded and perfectly placed, and the guitarist just assaults you with riffs. Ive always loved Avskums guitar style, which is full of dense, dark chords, drawing on an aspect of Bones style that few other guitarists pick up on. En Annan Vrld r Mjlig is full of all that stuff (I mean really full its 17 tracks!) and not much else, so if this is the shit that cracks your brain up, dont miss it.
