Demo cassette from this new California punk band.
Our take: Demo cassette from this new band out of California. Kampfer have a sound that kind of straddles the line between a few different genres… the most obvious would be hardcore and pogo-punk, as many of their songs employ that fast 1-2-1-2 beat, but they aren’t tied to that beat and their guitars are a lot denser and heavier than most pogo-style bands. They also have some pretty ripping guitar solos that kind of remind me of NYHC bands gone metal… Leeway maybe? That slight NYHC vibe is also carried through to the vocals, which have a kind of New Breed comp-type feel to me. It’s a weird mish-mash of influences, but it works for Kampfer and it definitely adds up to a very original sound.
